THE VICTORIA-STREET SCHOOL.

—♦ — PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. Lust evening the pupils of Mrs Linton's Victoria-street School assembled in Mrs Gnpper's new villa residence (kindly lent for the occasion) for the customary ceremony which precedes the Christmas vacation. The Itey. Wyndhaiu Earcc, who presided , said lie could speak with confidence of the worth of tho teachers and the merits of the pupils, as he, during the past year, by conducting a Bible class amongst them, had special opportunities of forming an opinion upon the school generally. The education imparted was of so valuable a character that it would be a crying shame if, in their Protestant community, any support were in the future alienated from Mrs Linton's establishment. He detailed the principles upon which prizes wero being awarded, and assured parents that each ono had hcon well earned. The services of Mr A. N. Hums had been secured as an independent examiner, and in his report that gentleman spoke highly of the intelligent answers received to his questions from the pupils, and of the true educational system adopted by Mrs Linton, under which no effort was made to "cram," but pains were taken to doyelop her pupils by the best possible means, The following prizes were then presented : OENEBAL MEBIT, First Class.—Norah Moore. Second Class—Daisy Cawto; next in merit, Blancho Gapper. Third Class.—Annie Scllars; next in merit, Bona Brandon, Fourth Class.—Doris Gawith 1, Freda Gawith 2. COH DUCT, First Class,—Norah Moore csentcd by Mrs Dr Beard,) Second Class, - Winnie Moore (presented by Mrs Brandou). Third Class,—Annie Sellar (presented by Mrs Gawith), 1; Freda Gawith (presented by Mrs Linton), 2. Special. Composition on Biblical Subject (presented by Mrs Gapper), Norah Moore 1. Music—Alice Payton, 1 j Blanche Gapper, 2. Paixiiko (Mr H, D. Tumor). -Norah Moore, 1. Drawi no.—Maggie Payton, 1; Freda Gawith, 2. The pupils then asked the Kev. chairman to present to Mrs Linton on their behalf a yery pretty afternoon tea set as a token of their regard and this was tho signal for spontaneous and hearty applause from the parents and friends who were preseut on tho occasion. A very handsome bouquet was also tendered to Miss Linton on behalf of the youug students, Mrs Linton acknowledged the gifts in the warmest terms and also expressed her thankfulness for the encouraging report of Mr A. N. Bums, The remainder of the evening was devoted to music and mirth, the programme opening with a glee, sung by the children, under the leadership of Mr Meadows. A supper table was laid in a convenient room, where tho guests were hospitably entertained, There was still another presentation, not altogether disconnected with the proceedings. Tho pupils had, during the past year, been indebted to a neighbour, Mrs Bulpit, for the use ofa tennis court and a little gift to acknowledge this kindness was a part of tho programme. The evening's entertainment included musical pieces rendered by Misses Kuth and Constance Beard, Freda and Doris Gawith, Blancho Gapper, Daisy Cawte, Alice and Magaret Payton, Maude and Ireno Linton and Mrs Linton. Songs were rendered by Mrs Earco and Mr Meadows and Mr F. G. Moore kindly exhibited his phonograph,
