At tlio sitting of the Presbyterian General Assembly this morning tlio following ministers were received into the ministry by the Church : Revs, J, 11, Simpson, formerly of Sydenham ; J. 0. Tennnnt, from Victoria; P. McQueen, from New South Wales; J. V. Johnston, from Scotland; and D. Jamiesou, from Scotland,
The Assembly received standing a minute expressive of the high appreciation of tlio character, life and work of the late Rev. James Treadwell, of Wanganui, and of sympathy with the bereaved family. The report on statistics gavo the following information: 169 churches, eighty-three ministers, 418 elders, 11,209 communicants, 217 Sabbath schools, 1505 teachers, 15.272 scholars. Contributions for ordinary purposes, £28,985,
The Students and Scholarship Committee's report announced that the literary scholarship had been awarded to Mr T. Riddle, of Raknia. Tho Rev. 11. Wood, of Mastertou, was re-appointed sub-editor of tho Christian Outlook, Tho Very Rev. Moderator and Rev. Jas. JlacKen/.ie, of Nelson, and Mr J.
