The New Zealand Loan and' Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) held their usual weekly sale yesterday afternoon, when an important catalogue, consisting of some 5,(100 bales, .was submitted for competition. Bidding was spirited throughout the sale, the market being active at late rates. Greasy Merino wools sold up to Is; scoured wools to 15|d, and washed to 13|d. Calcutta, December 3, King Theebaw, to-gether with the Queen and some other members of his household, has arrived at Thayetungo, in the Pegu district of British Burmah, where they have been detained as prisoners. New Zealand wheat shows an advance of 2s per 496 lbs for higher grades, and prices now obtainable, range from 28s to 365, ex store, according, to quality, Tallow is unchanged, Wool.—The present series of colonial wool auctions close to-morrow. 130,000 -bales were sold since the commencement of the series, and 21,000 bales were held over for the next sale. At to-day's auction there was good competition, and the various lots were disposed of at full current rates.

The Bank of England's weekly returns published to-day show the total reserve in notes andbuflion £12,200,000, a reduction of £IOO,OOO during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities remains at 45 per cent.
