INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
RAGING ON ROTUMA. SMALL PERCENTAGE OP DEATHS. 'Per Press Association —Copyright Australian Press Association. Received this day, 12 noon. SUVA, This Day. Broncho pneumonic influenza epidemic is raging on the island of Rotuma, 500 miles north of Fiji, but under Fijian administration. The first case xvas reported on December 4th after the arrival of the inter-island steamer Makatea. With the exception of Dr. Carew, resident Commissioner, and two Europeans, and some 50 Fijians who are proving immune everyone of the 2,300 inhabitants are affected The deaths total 31 equal to 1.3 per cent, of the population. The epidemic is now abating. Practically the whole of the work of attending the sick devolved on Dr. Carew.
