At the New Year sports held by the South Canterbury Caledonian Society at Timaru on January Ist and 2nd, Waimate competitors won several events. Their wins are as follows Running. 880 yds. McDonald (scr) 1. Time Amin 41 l-ssecs 220 yds Amateur Handicap:—A Dobbs (14yds) 1 Cycling. One mile Bicycle Handicap: —A. J. Hansen 2 (dead heat with J. Silvester) . Two miles S.C. ehampionship:— A. J. Hansen 1. Time 4min. 32. 3-5 secs Field Events. Hop, Step and Jump, (amateur) —B. Whelan (60ins) '2. Dancing. Ghillie Callum (girls under 12) : —May Duncan 2. Reel O’Tulloch (girls over 12 and under 16) : —L. Richardson 3. Highland Fling (girls under 12): —May Duncan 2. Highland Reel (girls under 12) : —May Duncan 1. Four-hand Irish Reel:—L. Richardson was a member of the winning team on both davs.
