Excellent falls are reported from many inland districts, where it was greatly required owing to the long spell of hot, dry weather and the ruin caused by the bush fires. ADELAIDE, Dec. 28. A heavy storm swept the metropoliton area on Saturday night and Sunday. causing much damage, unroofing houses, smashing windows, uprooting trees and disorganising communications. SYDNEY, Dec. 23. The rain is, exceptionally heavy in ♦he Newcastle district. Some, lowlying parts round the town were submerged and numbers of people flooded ant. Boats were sent to rescue marooned families. SYDNEY. Deccmbc- 27. A fire at Kyoble destroyed a block of fifteen business premises. The vounteer fire brigade, owing to shortage of water was unable to cope with the outbreak till it was cut off by destroying intervening buildings. The damage is estimated in the vicinity of £lOO.OOO SYDNEY, Dec. 28. Incessant drenching rain continues. The whole of the State is participating. Rough seas are runing and hampering the shipping. Some rivers are flooded, and fka railways are hampered by numerous washouts. To-morrow’s Tattersall’s races have been postponed, owing to the flooding of the course. Thousands of Christmas campers have been flooded out and driven home. SYDNEY. Dec. 28. Thg mother of Marten has arrived from New Zealand to assist in the search for her missing son, and has offered £lOO reward for his discovery alive (A previous cablegram .said: The Police are inquiring into the whereabouts of Pe*"t Marten, who has been missing since December 9. Marten’s relatives reside in New Zealand, and anxiety is felt concerning the missing man’s safety. Jf 'is known that ho was studying for an accountancy examination, and it.is thought he is suffering from lo c s of memory. The Police are cony-need that he has not left the country!
