SOVIET RUSSIA
(Per Press Association —Copyright.) LONDON, Dec. 27. The Riga correspondent of the “Times" states that owing to widespread discontent among officers, recently causing the Soviet grave anxiety, the salaries of officers of the Army, Navy, and Air Force have been increased. The War Commisseur (M. Voroshiloff) apologises for the smalllness of the increases, and points out that financial conditions render the present inadequate increases most difficult to meet. Salaries already absorb an undue proportion of the Military Budget, involving neglect of necessary equipment. LONDON, Dec. 27. Advices from Moscow, via Riga, state that Mr A. J. Cook (secretary i of the Miners’ Federation of Britain) sent a leltter thanking the Soviet bodies, and promising greater revolutionary activity in Britain. He . intends to visit Russia again in May. The letter adds: “It is necessary to employ Russian methods to win. We must reorganise the trade unions on the class war basis, discarding leaders of the MacDonald and Thomas type, who believed in a compromise with the capitalists.”
