CYCLE ROAD RACE

THE MORVEN FIXTURE. AN INTERESTING CONTEST. The Morven Cycle Road Race, which was held yesterday, proved an interesting’ contest,' there being 13 starters and a good road. The race was twice round a block of five miles, making a distance of ten miles The race started at the C.F.C.A. corner and round to the Main road, along the Main road and back to Morven via a back road. The riders owe a debt of gratitude to the organisers, Messrs J. Woods and J. McAleer, and also to Mr L. C. McLauchlan, who helped with the race. The handicapping of Mr J. McAleer proved very satisfactory. The following were the results:— R. Allnutt (smin) 1 C. Woods (I Jmin) . . . . 2 H. Bennett (4min) .. .. 3 G. Woods (3|min) 4 C. Woods annexed the prize foi fastest time. G. Woods, a youth under 16 years of age, received a special prize given to the youngest rider. R. Allnutt, one of the limit men, went away from his fellows and led for the whole of the race, coming in a good first. Most of the other limit men pulled out after the first round. C. Woods (llmin) and A. Hansen (scr) gained steadily on the front markers, but the latter, in attempting to overtake the former on the first rou'nd tired himself and fell away in the second round, failing to secure a place. However, his performance was an exceptionally good one, and his time for the first round was not equalled by any of the other competitors. C. Woods rode strongly throughout, catching up with the front rankers just after the beginning of the second round, but failed to overtake R. Allnutt, who rode an excellent race. H. Bennett (4min), the third man, rode a good race for a lad. He maintained his handicap for the greater part of the distance and finished a failthird. G. Woods, for his age, put up a very good performance'. G. Geddes, a promising rider, was unfortunate in missing the road at one of the turns, which forced him to abandon the race.
