The weather was fine, and the wicket good. The outfield was much drier. Woodfull added six to his overnight score, before he was dismissed. Pousford and Hendry made the most of the weak bowling, and despite frequent changes and keen fielding, kept the fieldsmen busy. The partnership put on 217 runs in 142 minutes. Ponsford gave two chances at ten and 144, while Hendry give a difficult chance at 27. MELBOURNE, December 20.

New South Wales playing against South Australia, in the first innings made 341 (Andrews 86, Ratcliffe 46, Hogg 24, Morgan 26 not out, Mailey 21). Grimmett took 4 for 110, Williams 5 for 155.
