“THE CLOUD RIDER,.’’ The nose dive into the lashing sea in a-big seaplane; a crash into a redwood tree towering into the sky in his lighter airplane, and numerous other stunts calculated to thrill the most blase theatregoer are among the features of “The Cloud Rider.” Al Wilson’s new air stunt melodrama which is coming to the Arcadia Theatre on Friday and Saturday. Wilson, ivho distinguished him self a flyer in the World War with the American forces and who for a number of years has been lecogrised as the foremost stunt fiver in the world, has become overnight one of the most popular stars in the cinema world. His aviation thrilln are only a. part of his big productions, there being a mediocum of love interest, suspense, mystery and al’ the other ingredients that go to make up an interesting narrative. Among those who appear in support of Mr Wilson are Virginia Lee Corbin, Helen Ferguson, Harry Aon Meter and many others, including at least six of the famous flyers who won signal honours under fire in the World War. MONDAY and TUESDAY. “ARIZONA SWEEPSTAKES.” HOOT GIBSON. Hoot Gibson comes to the front again in “The Arizona Sweepstakes,’ a Universal-Jewel to be shown in the Arcadia theatre commencing Mlonday. There is a new angle to this latest Gibson picture which the hard-riding Hoot is first seen caught in the labyrinths of a great city’s underworld before, ho finally gets back to his native stamping—the free and unbound plains of the West. Romance runs, rampant. It is a thrilling story of an unsophisticated cowpuncher’s adventures in a city’s gang life and of his battle of wits and nerve with an unscrupulous millionaire rancher from the East. Of the many excit :ng scenes that feature “The Arizona Sweepstakes” the great crosscountry race participated in by Hoot, the villain and a score or more of real cowpunchers is the most exciting. It is one of the best races that has been seen on the screen m a long time. The supporting cast is a notable one. Playing opposite Hoot in the leading feminine role is prettv Helen Lynch with Philo McCullough, one of the screen’s best villains, cast in one of his favourite parts. Some excellent comedy work is contributed by two old favorites, Kate Price and George Ovey, aided and abetted by Billy Schaeffer, Jackie Morgan and Turner Savage, three very precocious youngsters. Others in the cast include Emmert King and Tod Brown.
