The quarterly meeting of the Executive of the Primary Producers’ Union carried a motion expressing the opinion that it is imperative that the duty on New Zealand butter should be increased to 6d per lb., and to 6d on cheese, with a corresponding increase in the general tariff, and further that under the general tariff the duty should be increased to 6d at least on process cheese. It also resolved that in the event of the Federal Government not acceding to the impost of a duty of 6d on New Zealand butter, the Union should circularise all kindred organisations in the other States, impressing upon them the advisability of 'making this a leading question to candidates at the next Federal elections. GENERAL ITEMS. CALCUTTA, Dec. 15. At the tea sale, there was a good demand for the better classes at prices equivalent to the last sales. Poorerdescriptions had a lower tendency, declining three to six pice. LONDON, December 15. At the tallow sales, 977 casks were offered, and 197 sold. There was a poor demand. Mutton declined Is, and the others were unchanged. LONDON, Dec. 16. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s issue was over-subscribed.
