DESTROYED BY FIRE
FEB FBESS ASSOCIATION —COPIBIGHT Rotorua, this day. About three o’clock this morning a fire .. block in Tutanekai Street, owned by Mr T. Williams, gutted the shops of W Hardie (draper and Mrs Galbraith (confectioner), and also the bulk of Hardie’s store. It damaged the shops of R. G. Marsh (photographer), and E. T. Harris (bookseller). The, fire had a strong hold when it was discovered, and it is impossible to tell how and where it originated. Hardie’s and Galbraith’s stocks were destroyed and Marsh’s and Harris’s greatly damaged. Williams’ was insured in the United for £l4OO, Harris in the United for £l5OO, Hardie in the Victoria for £l2OO and Marsh in the Northern for £350. Mrs Galbraith was uninsured. The Brigade did exceedingly well to save the block, as a strong wind was blowing. BLENHEIM, Monday. A large dwelling house occupied by Mrs A. M. Michalanney, was the scene of an outbreak of fire to-day. Three adults and three children made a hurried exit. Four rooms were gutted. The furniture was destroyed. The insurance on the house was .£6OO in thd Phoenix, and ,£3OO on the furniture in the Commercial Union.
