The fortnightly meeting of thp Loyal Waimate Oddfellows was held on Monday evening, Bro. Anderson, acting N.G., presiding over a full company of members. The secretary reported that notwithstanding the wet night ten brothers made the trip to Timaru in response to an invitation to a re-union of the Lodges in the district, arranged by Star ofCanterbury, at which there were representatives from Fairlie, Geraldine, Teniuka and Sunshine Ladies’ Lodge, Timaru, and a pleasant and profitable evening resulted. The sick visiting committee reported two brothers on the funds, and an account of £6 therewith was passed for payment. It was decided to invite members of the local Fire Brigade to a friendly card match during the present month and a delegate to the Fire Brigade was appointed. Members expressed the hope that th e Friendly Societies’ Council would arrange a series of card matches early on similar lines to the enjoyable tournaments of last winter.

That the railway line to the West Coast through the Otira tunnel can be officially opened in December is the opinion of Mr P. R.
