RAILWAY PILFERING.
WORST PHASE PASSED. POLICE DOGS IN USE. (Per Press Association—Copyright.) London, May 19. The railway authorities in England consider that as the result of new methods the worst phase of pilfering has passed. Last year’s loss was £1,900,000. The methods include sealing the yang in. conjunction, with uniformed police patrols, patrols at the various depots, wire- binding on boxes and packages, and the removal of consignors’ names and indications of contents. The newest device has been satisfactorily tested, the policedogs enabling the pilferers to be caught red-handed.
