THE FIRST TEST.

SPRINGBOKS MATCH AT DUNE- ■ DIN. (By “Argus”). The great question is Who wil] win. Being New Zealanders, we believe New Zaland will get home; but one thing is clear—we must be prepared for surprises. The New Zealand forwards will be better than Otago, but not much better. McLean is a great forward and we” hope his injury will not be bad enough to stop him from playing Our hope is in the dash of our forwards and our backs. We have great confidence in Kingston at full back — he is very .fast. The other backs are really first class. Steele may not be too reliable on defence, but the other threequarters are very sound!

Nicholls, at five-eighths, has not been playing well recently, but we hope he turns out trumps. Like other matches the first spell should see New Zealand with the lead, but the second spell will be the one to count.

McLean, a member of the Neiw Zealand team, and a big dashing forward from Bay of Plenty, met with an accident to his knee while training this morning, and it is at present doubtful whether he will be able to play on Saturday in the test match, in which case his place will be taken by Fogarty, of Taranaki.
