WAIMATE FARMERS AND THE EXCESS CHARGES. RAILWAY MINISTER INTERVIEWED. ' [Sfbcial to Advertiser. ] Wellington, this day. 'ln consequence o£ having received from farmers and others in South Canterbury complaints as to penal overcharges for overweight grain sacks on the railways, Mr Buxton, M.P., interviewed the Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister. for Railways, on the subject. Messrs Craigie and Witty, M.P.’s, were also present, and supported the representations made by the Member for Geraldine. It appeared that there has been a good-deal of. dissatisfaction among the merchants and farmers, and they felt that they had been unduly harassed by uncertain and unexpected penal charges, which were lacking in uniformity. The Minister,after talking the mutter over with the three members, assured the deputation that he would look into the matter, and if there had been any undue 'harassing of farmers and merchants in the handling of their grain and produce he would have it remedied at once. - a ' /r He afterwards, sent; the following letter to Mr .
