Choral and Orchestral Society.

Mr Scott seconded this, which was carried. j It was decided that the dociety i consist of honorary and active members, its object being the cultivation of vocal and instrumental music by practise and public performance. The following officers were elected : — President, His Worship the Mayor, Dr Barclay ; vicepresidents, Eevs, McKenzie Gib son, Blight, Morrison, Barnott. and Father Regnanlt : secretary, Mr G. Akhursfc ; treasurer, Mr W. L. Scctt ; conductor, Mr W. Ooltman ; bandmaster, Mr J. Harwood ; aeconipaniste, Miss Smart ; librarians, Mesdames Ak hurst and Coltman; general committee, Messrs C. J. Goldstone, Scott, W. Evans, Menzies, and Hamilton ; musical committee, Miss Turni bull, Mrs Hamilton, Mr F. Akhurst, conductor and bandmaster. In accepting ths conductorship, Mr Coltman saitl he took it with the understanding that he would have nothing to do with the business part of the society. He said a conductor should put -all his time to his own particular duties. Tho committee are to draft rules, which will be considered at a meeting of members to be held shortly. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
