THE AUCKLAND BURGLARIES. A REVOLVER. USED. AUCKLAND, June 24. Mr. F. S. Morton, of Onehunga, came into actual conflict with a burglar. He sleeps upstairs on the premises, and was awakened shortly after 11 o’clock on Sunday night by what lie took to bo a sound of falling glass. Ho possessed himself of a revolver apd crept stealthily to the head of the. stairs, from which position ho saw a man with a lighted match in his hand, crouched, and moving behind the counter. Mr. Morton fired four shots, at the same time calling for help. Constable Smith, who was on night duty, was attracted to the place, and came on the scene very soon, but by then the burglar ban vanished.

Between 10 p.ra., on Saturday and 3 a.in., on Sunday, a burglar entered the premises cf Pringle and Co. fancy goods dealers, Lambton Quay, and, after ransacking tiro stock, departed with a quantity (f enamelled jewellery. Entrance was effected from the bark, a window having been broken and the catch pushed back. No money was found on the premises, bat the stock was thoroughly overhauled. Even goods in the window wore disturbed.
