THE HOME RULE FIGHT
ASKING PROVINCIAL EXEMPTION. AMENDMENT DEFEATED. I.P*B PEE3B ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT. J LONDON, June 19. In the House of Commons a heated debate occurred over Sir Agar Robartes’s amendment to exclude Antrim, Armagh, Down and Londonderry, ficra the Homo Rule Bill. The Rt. Hon. A. Birrcll said it was absurd to suppose that the Government regarded lightly the possibility of a civil war, but they did not believe that any Ulster man thought their life and liberty wore in danger. Mr. Bonar Law said the Government dared not employ troops to expel the Ulstermen from the union. A Government giving such nn order would run the risk of being lynched in London. The amendment was rejected by 320 tc 251. Messrs Pirie, Cory, Munro, Ferguson and Cowan, supported • the amendment, but thirteen Labourites were absent.
