President Taffy election campaign alleges, and publishes a statement that Mr Theodore Roosevelt’s forces are seeking to corrupt and bribe President Taft’s delegates. Mr. Roosevelt’s manager replied the story is a pure invention on the campaign lines.
PRESIDENT TAFT IRRITATED. CONGRESS ABOLISHES JUS PET SCHEME. WASHINGTON, June 13. •"President Taft is quarrelling with
Congress. 'Hie Senate abolished the Commerce Court, President Taft’s pot scheme, oml held over the Army Appropriation Bill.
President Taft holds that such an action by Congress is unconstitutional and he will probably veto tho Army Appropriation Bill, wliich contains a clause abolishing the Commerce Court. If the Bill is vetoed the pay of all officers and men in the United Stales army will be withheld indefinitely.
CONVENTION GOES FOR. TAFT. NEW YORK, June 14. Mr. Taft continues to hold the load in the allottment of delegates at the Chicago Convention. Mr. Roosevelt to-day secured eight votes, and Mr. Taft eighteen. Altogether Mr. Taft has secured 159 contested delegates and Air. Roosevelt thirteen. Sentiment is growing in favour of Senator Cummins as a compromise candidate. DEAIOCRATS USING STRATEGY. NEW YORK, June 14. The Democrats are awaiting the result of the Republican Convention before nominating their candidate.
