The New Zealand Herold’s Opotiki correspondent telegraphs that as a sequel to the stabbing affray at Paharoa Pa, near Tekaha, on Wednesday last week, Tame Ham ana Wiropa was charged at the Police Court with murdering Hamana Wiropa, and with stabbing Tuhi Taare Wiropa, and William Nowland, with a knife. Tuhi Taare, who was severely wounded in the affray, was the first witness and gave evidence concerning the affray.
William Nowlauds, a hush contractor, said he took sir; ordinary bottles of whisky with him from Tckaka to Pahaoa, arriving there obout 10 a.m., on Juno sth. Ho and the others concerned in the affray were drinking from the time of his arrival, until tho time of his arrival, until four o’clock iu the afternoon and they consumed fom bottles of whisky. At four o’elcek hs left for Tekaha, for more whisky. Returning about da;k with six more bottles, he and tho others finished one bottle and might have tar.tod another. Several other witnesses gave evidence. , j Tamehana Wirepa was committed . to the Supreme Court for trial and ■ left in custody for Auckland this af- i tornoon. 1
