He claimed that the prosperity of the country during the Liberal regime was duo to the efforts of settlement laud giving opportunities to Party’s labour legislation, cheap money schemes and tho attacks and checks on monopolies. Ho wan confident that tho people wore truly liberal, and his was the only party which was truly liberal and would stand tho test of going to tho country. Ho denied the statements that tho M a'ckcnzio Government wore afraid to tackle tho big problems of the cost of living and education and that was why those had been referred to tho Commission. Ho stated that they were going the right way to effect the desired reform. IF an unholy alliance disposed of tho present government, the country will insist that the Liberals go hack. Mr. Massey would find ho was nearer success in February than he ever would ho again. Mr. Russell said his policy, as regards hospitals, was to have large basic hospitals equipped and appointed with the latest scientific methods, Medical inspectors wbuld visit the schools and report on tuberculosis symptoms and train the teachers in health. The Sanatorium ami maternity homes would be open to wives of men earning to £4 a week. The Minister complained that Mr. Masrcy was inconsistent and said this Stop-gap Government should not attempt to fill the office of High Com-

missiouer and were now allowing those offices to be held open for political purposes. Mr. Russel! was frequently applauded. A resolution of thanks to the speaker, and confidence in the present Government and wishing them u long and prosperous career was carried unanimously.
