WEST COAST SCHOOLS CARNIVAL

Yesterday morning broke dull and cnoorless, and about ton o’clock a

cold rain bega nto fall, and at tho Hire appointed for the Schools Carniv il to commence, heavy rain was falling. There was a large muster of children on Cass Square, and tho school officials decided to hold the cadet competitions and also tlie two important running races, whilst the Drill Shed was requisitioned for the purpiKO of getting oil tlie decorative competitions and also some of tne girls drill events. Tho work of the five cadets squads was very favourably commented upon by tlie judge, and tho win by tlie section under Sorgt. Winter proved a very popular one. Tlie two running events were annexed by Gnjymouth competitors, who made no mistake in capturing Hus trophies.

In the Drill Shod, the various competitions in which tiro girls wore interested, were got off. The teams of decorated bicycles created fnuch interest, general regret being expressed that the weather had not been fine enough to allow the very pleasing work of the entrants to bo seen to advantage.
