The relations between .Capital and Labour was the chief after dinner topic with the members of Auckland Provincial -Industrial Association at their annual dinner last night. The President (Mr B. Buttle), said that Capital and Labour were at grips struggling for supremacy.. What was wanted was a solution of the difficulty. He did not think that was to be brought about by legislation, but only, by coming to an understanding with each other on the man to man basis. The Hon Mr Carroll, replying to the toast of Parliament, spoke of the necessity of Labour and Capital working in conjunction towards the advancement of the commercial welfare of the country. The present state of affairs could not go on for the head could not work without; the rest of the anatomy. The Government had tried to solve the Labour .problem 1 by legislation but the employers were on one side and the employees on the other. Neither was satisfied. He believed that they would yet find imbued in all sections of the public a true sense of fair play. When they arrived at that understanding the problem was solved. .
