GREYMOUTH NOMINATIONS

GREYMOUTH, April 19. The only nomination for the position of Mayor was that of Alfred Charles Russell, (nominated by David McKay, William Morris and Andrew Maher), who was thus declared duly elected. Mr. Russell, in thanking the electors for their continued confidence in him, said that he was pleased to say that the Borough was in a better financial position than when lie took up the duties of the Mayoral chair twelve months ago, but they were still not so good as he would like. The increasing prosperity of Greymouth was evidenced in the increasing number of building permits that had been granted during the year. The coming twelve months would require careful management, and would be no time for sentiment. He hoped that those who took on the duties of Councillors would face the position with courageous minds. During the past twelve months they had had several breezy meetings, and he had been asked if he was still alive. He replied that he was still alive and so was the Council. He hoped that they would all live and prosper. He would take the opportunity of addressing them on the position of the finances of the Borough on Tuesday. He would address them in the Opera House, and other candidates would also take the platform the same night. He again thanked them for their continued confidence. COUNCILLORS.
