THE WESTLAND HOSPITALS AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The animal statutory meeting of the Board was held last evening at 7 o ? - oloek. Present—Messrs T. McGnigan, (Chairman), H. B. Bock, T. Robinson, T. W. Bruce, T. W .Duff, J. A Murdoch, T Kennedy, A. Clifton, J. Toomey Some discussion took place as to whether an application for tiio position of Health Oflicer for the district should bo opened Messrs Bock and Robinson protested against the Board adopting this course as on the opinion of two local solicitors members could not legally do so. A motion was moved to the effect that the applications bo dealt with. Mr. Clifton moved an amendment that tho application be held over until next meeting so that a legal opinion could bo obtained as to the position of tho Board in the matter. Mr. Toomey seconded. Carried. A list of approximate amounts required for maintenance of Hospital and Charitable Institutions in Westland for the year ended March, 31st, 1912 was laid before members. The suggested levies on tho contributing bodies with the previous year’s levies (shown as follows) were then dealt with.
Westland County Council—l9lo-11, £1242; 1911-12, £1943. Hokitika Borough—l9lo-11, • £342; 1911-12, £BSO. Kuinara Borough—l9lo-11, £75; 1911 12, £lls.
Ross Borough, 1910-11, £56; 1911-12 £92.
The suggested amounts were generally regarded as being too high and after some discussion it was decided to increase the amounts of the levies fixed last year by 10 per cent., the respective amounts being as. follows: AA T estland County, £1360; Hokitika Borough, £596; Kuinara Borough £B2; Ross Borough £62. Tho meeting then terminated
