OBITUARY
EVAN EVANS.
GREYMOUTH, April 19. Death removed a ranch respected member of the Greymouth community last night in the person of Mr Evan Evans, a native of South Wales, at the advanced age of 91 years. Mr Evans was a Welsh miner and landed in Nelson many years ago, at any rate considerably over forty, and subsequently came down to Brunner where he secured employment in the mine where he worked for several years. Some time after that ho was in the milk business at Coal Creek and supplied the town with milk from there. Finally.he took employment at the Gas Works until old ago compelled him to relinquish work. His wife predeceased him between 18 mouths and two years ago and the old man has gradually sunk since her death and passed away quietly last night. Ho leaves one son, Mr John Evans, Borough water overseer and two married daughters, Mrs J. Steer and Mrs W. Walton. MRS BLACKMORE. GREYMOUTH, April 19. Though only confined to her bed through sickness for a couple of days, the death of Mrs Blackmore did not come as a surprise as the medical men attending her virtually had given her up yesterday morning. She had been a great help to her husband in his early pioneering in Greymouth and till his death, wh'ch occurred about twenty years ago she was his main stay and since then has done all that she could to advance the interests of the members of her family of which there are eight, viz., four sons and four daughters. Mrs Blackmore was always a very kind hearted hospitable lady and many will miss her kindly disposition which prompted her to acts of Christian charity unostentatiously displayed.
She leaves four sons, one the manager of the Palmerston North branch of the National Bank, one in business as an ironmonger in Beefton, one engaged in the Railway in Christchurch and one, Frank, in business in Greymouth. Also four daughters, Mrs Tomkies of Miss Dora in business in Feilding on her own account and two at home.
