ARRESTED FOR MURDER

A GUMDIGCER MISSING,

-MAORI SUSPECTED. PSR PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPVIUGIH. I AUCKLAND, April, 19. A native named Tahi Kaka was arrested at Kaikohe last night on suspicion of having murdered a gumdigger named John Freeman. It appears that Freeman has been missing from his whare at Pukihopipi, near Whaugarei, since April sth, ahnd at tho time of his disappearance he was in possession of aconsiderable sum of money. Large-search parties have been searching tho country but no trace of the missing man has been discovered. The accused man is to be taken to Whangarei, where he will he charged, and a remand will be applied for, to allow further investigations. Kaka was the last man seen in Freeman’s company, and since then he has been spending money freely.
