GREYMOUTH v. HOKITIKA B

The above match was played on the Grey courts on Saturday, but owing to the rain had to be abandoned, with a total of 80 games in favour of Hokitika to Grey’s 75, Only one combined set was played, two being unfinished and one not started. The men’s doubles were also not played. The players speak very highly of the hospitality extended to them by the members of the Greymouth Club and despite the wet weather the day was enjoyed by one and all. Before dispersing Dr Teichelmann, in a few well chosen words expressed his thanks on behalf of the visitors for their generous treatment, M|- Ferguson suitably replied on bphalf of the hoine team. The games throughout were very evenly ron'tested and some splendid tennis shewn, the Hokitika ladies in particular played wil/i great accuracy and judgment and are to be complimented on their skill. The men’s single produced some very good games, particlarly those of Moore-Lindop, Teichel-mann-Learmont and Cairnie-Lynch. The first couple both volleyed and drove well. The genial Doctor’s tricky L’FtyPfj- very confusing to his opponent froip the Uaparoa, TIIO Cair-uje-Lyneh combined lasted long, but the veteran lasted long enough to snatch the last game. HOKITIKA (A) A GREY (A). Some four weeks the annual match between Grey and Hokitika Lawn Tennis Clubs was played at Grey and resulted in a win for Grey by a small margin. Last Saturday the return match was played on the local ocurts, but was not finished owing to rain. The following are. the scores:— Ladies Singles. Mrs Williams v. Mrs Lewis 6—o; M iss Michel v. Miss Blackman 6—2; Mrs Wilson v. Miss Yarrall 6—4; Mrs Renton v. Miss Smith 6—4. Men’s Singles Wake v. Lewis 9—o; Beare v. Blair 9—6 ; Chesney v. Chalk 2—9 ; Wilson v. Devenish fi—2; Macfarlane v. Kitchingham 6—9; Policy v. Griffon 3—9. No games took place in the Ladies’ Doubles. In the combined doubles only one game was played, viz., Beare and Miss Michel v. Blair and Miss Yarrall 9—2. Totals—Hokitika 76; Grey 49.
