’The Band contest was continued today. The weather was gloriously line and the Quickstep Competition took place in the presence of a record crowd. The gate takings amounted to £360 Twelve hands competed. The Wanganui Garrison carried olf first prize with a total of 286:j points. Of those 130 were for music. Blenheim was second with 283 points, 1.22 being for music. Pethme came third with 266 points, 126 being for music. Others finished as follows:—Nelson 26L1, Wanganui City 263, Manaia 247j, Gisborne 247-1, Cambridge 2-13, Wellington Tramways 2331, Waitara 232], Feilding 2231, Opunake 217. During the afternoon, Mr James A. Crichton was presented with a gold medal to commemorate the fact that he was conductor of the finest performance by any massed band in New Zealand, vi/,., that at a garden party on Tuesday last. .Mr Maurice Cohen was presented with a handsome oil painting on the occasion of his resigning the Presidency of the North Island Brass Band Association after holding office for 12 years.
