OBITUARY.

MISS KATE FITZGERALD. Word was received in Hokitika yesterday of the death of Miss Kate Fitzgerald of the Christchurch road, who underwent a serious but highly success fnl operation in the Kumara Hospital on Tuesday for goitre. She, however, succumbed yesterday morning to a seizure of heart failure. Deceased was widely known and much respected and her death will come as a great blow to her many friends, among whom are a number of brothers and sisters, amongst them being Mrs Campbell, postmistress at Brunnorton and Messrs Fitzgerald, storekeepers of Otira. We desire to extend our heartfelt sympathy to her relatives in their sad loss.

MRS EMMA BURRELL. The death of Mrs Emma Rurerll (wife of Mr Robert Burrell) of Kuraara is announced, which sad event took place at Kumara on Tuesday last. 1 The deceased lady was universally esteemed and respected. She leaves a family of five—three daughters and two sons, and was only 38 years of age at the time of her death.
