Before the Chief Justice to-day, Robert Beetling (Speriutendent Wellington Zoo) claimed two thousand pounds from John Norton (proprietor of Truth) for alleged libel. The case wag tried before a special jury. Defendant denied that the words complained of reflected on the plaintiff in his occupation, or that they had been published falsely or maliciously or were libellous or defamatory, and that in their natural ordinary significance they were true, in substance and in fact.
