CORKHILL AGAIN REMANDED

WELLINGTON, March 16—On the charge of the murder of Christopher Smith on the 4th March, Robert Corkhill was again remanded to-day till next Wednesday.

INDUSTRIAL SCHOOLS ACT. WELLINGTON, March 16.—The provisions of the Industrial Schools Amendment Act were brought into force in Wellington for the first time to-day. The act empowers the police to bring any uncontrollable child before a Magistrate to be committed to an Industrial school. The present case was a girl years who had run away from home three times. Her mother stated that the girl was beyond her control. The girl was committed to St. Joseph’s Orphanage.

MOISTURE IN BUTTER,

WELLINGTON, March 16. The Minister of Agriculture is considering a proposal to ' meet the difficulties which makers of private dairy butter are experiencing in preventing their butter containing excess of moisture. It has been suggested by the director of the dairy produce divisoin that a depot be established at one or more of the central shipping ports through which the makers of dairy butter would have the privilege of sending their produce. At such depot it would be tested before shipment and in some cases, where any excess of moisture was in the butter if it was detected it could be re-marked and re-packed before being shipped for a small charge estimated at Cd per hour.
