The- Council met at 2.30

On the motion of Hon W C Walker it was decided to forward a congratulatory message to the King and Queen upon their Coronation.

The Statutes Repeal Bill Committee was reported with amendments

In Committee on the Fisheries Conservation Act Amendment Bill Hod Rigg moved to add the following new clause«?*'The holder of a license shall be entitled during such period -us may be prescribed at any time during daylight to enter on any private or other land, but not nearer than 200 yards from any dwelling house for the purpose of fishing for h«h and shall be liable only for any actual damage which may be occasioned. The said streams running through private property could not be resumed without compensation but moit streams in the Colony were already open to honest anglicans aod the objection raised was more sentimental than real.

The Hon Arkwrigbt considered the right to fish should be free to all.

The motion to add tbe new clause was agreed to; by 16 to 9.

Hon Twomey moved to add to tha clause a provision .that no libense shall •atitle the holder to take fish from toy bat a permanent stream or lake or water course. At. this stage progress was reported to enable the Crown Law ' Officers to be , consulted on the effect of amendment. The Hon W C Walker in reply to Hon Arkwright said the Medical Officer's report shoved the illness of the troops .on tbe Britannic was due to measles which was bporaiic and was more or lees always present in tbe Colony. The quarantining of a vessel was a aerioul matter and it was not thought necessary in this case. The Health Department had done all tbat could be done to miti* gate the evil. The Council rose at 4 p.m.
