WESTLAND BOARD OF EDUCATION.

WEDNEBDAT, JaNUABY 20. A special meeting of the Education Board was held at niae o'clock last evening to receive the report of tbe Examiner of Scholarship Candidates, which arrived by tbe Christchurch mail. Present— Messrs M'Whirter (chair), Grimmond, Jack, aud Rie. The following report of the Examiner, A. M'Gregor, Esq., M.A., of Wellington, vras read : — " I have the honor to report that I have just concluded tho exatuinaiiou for the valuable scholarship annually oSered by you for the best pupil attending the public schools in the Westland Educational District. The examination extended over three days, and has been of a very careful and searching character. The papers have been drawn up on the lines usually followed for similar competitions elsewhere. "It affords me much pleasure to be able to state tbat the results have been of an exceedingly satisfactory nature. Of the eleven candidates who presented themselves, not one failed to come up to the scholarship htaodard. In fact, the very lowest succeeded in securing 70 per cent of the available marks, or ten per cent more than the number required to qualify for a scholarship. Now this ia; high scoring, and quite au exceptional thing, I may add, in my experience, which now ex'ends over a considerable number of years. It reflects very high credit alike on tho candidates themselves and ou the teachers by whom they have been traiued. TOTAt BESUtTS. Truth , 70S) Patience ;..- ...
