GREYMOUTH RACES.

Geeymouth, December 27. About a thousand persons were present at the races to-day. The following is the result ; — Grey Valley Stakes Handicap, of 50 soys.— Four started ; it was a very keen race between Greyhound and Lady Grey, the former carrying 9st lOlbs, the latter 7at. Greyhound won by half-a length. Both horses were severely punished. Time— 3mins 28£secs. The Hack Race was a boil over, Redan leading Sandfly by half-a length. Borough Handicap, of 30sovs., 1£ miles. —Five entries ; four started ; Whalebone was scratched. It was a capital race between The Field and Bide-a-wee, when the latter won by a head, which was a surprise to the public. Time — 2m'ns 55^ sees. The Railway Stakes fell through on account of, it is said, Freeth objecting to the weight put on Greyhound, 9st 12lbs, while Lady Grey was in for 6at lOlbs. Consolation Handicap was won by Elfin King, who beat Lady Grey, there being only two pounds difference of weight.
