KUMARA GRIEVANCES.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, — The want of a Court here ia much felt, and there should, while the building is in course of erection, be a Clerk stationed here to grant rights of all kinds. Travelling to Goldsborough with such weather as we have had lately is no joke : besides at the rate the ru«h is progressing, it is compulsory to be back the same day, or one's claim or section may be jumped. Another wrong is, that houses should have licenses without accommodation of any kind, or halt a dozen beds. I have seen numbers of men wet and cold trying every public - house in the rush, in vain for beds. Some have no beds at all. We don't want whiskey shops merely. Making all allowances for the inconveniences of a new rush, I say there should be something more than a billiard room floor as the sleeping accommodation provided by a licensed house.
Rowdyism and petty thefts are on the increase, and the police staff should be proportionately increased at once. The heavy charges inflicted by the Central Board of Education is another great grievance. The charges for dams, head races, tail races, and tramways are excessive, and are looked upon as a yexatious imposition. I am, &c,
A Kumara Mines. Kumara, Sept. 6, 1876.
