Wusr Coast Timeb and Observer Office, Wednesday Evening. The duties collected at the Customs to-day amounted to £28 Is sd. CIIBISTCHURCU. The Lyttelton Times of the 21st reports:— The late intelligence received from Melbourne has affected tbe values of kerosene but little ; quotations remain very firm at 3s 4d to 3s 6d. There area few enquiries for candles, and good-sized parcels can readily be quitted at Is. The demand for spirits does not improve, and only small duty paid lines can be placed at anything like satisfactory rates. Oilman's stores arc not particularly active, with the exception of a few staple lines, such as low-priced salad oils and Lea and l'errin's sauce, which are held somewhat sparingly. Pine salt is in active request, the larger portion of the recent shipments being placed.
