Obstructing the Thoroughfare. — John Cosgrave appeared on information, charged with refusing to remove four cases from the footpath. Defendant pleaded :aot guilty. He said he was under the impression that the footpaths and thoroughfares were in charge of the Corporation. Mr Broham said the information had been laid under the < 'ounty of Westlaud Act, which was a continuation of the Canterbury Police Ordinance. His Worship said the information was evidently wrongly laid. It was under the wrong Ordinance. It should have been for allowing the goods to remain. Defendant said that he bi-lieved the cases were on his own ground. llis buildings did not cover his ground within two feet ; but he would have the ground surveyed, and if the cases were on the thoroughfare he would have them removed. His Worship said he would dismiss the information, under the circumstances.
Stray Cattle. — John Hinchcliff pleaded guilty to having allowed his cow to wander, but in doing so he wished to state that he thought he was doing the Corporation a service by allowing the cow to eat the grass off the streets. Defendant was fined ss, nnd costs.
The Court then adjourned until this morning.
