TASMANIA. Colonial Treasury, Hobart Town, 7th October, 1868. mHE following Regulations, approved by the Governor in Council, arc published for general information. By His Excellency's Command, THOS. D. CHAPMAN. Memorandum of Regulations under the Act 26 Victoria, No. 6, respecting the Payment of a Reward for the discovery of a profitable Groldficld in Tasmania. 1. The area of a Gold-field not to exceed eight thousand acres to entitle the discoverer to the Reward under the Act. 2. No Gold-field shall be deemed profitable within the meaning of the Act unless it is proved to the satisfaction of the Governor in Council that such Gold-field has yielded not less than an average of one hundred ounces a week for a period for twelve months. 3. All claims for the discovery of a Gold-field under the Act to be registered at the Colonial Secretary's Office. 4. The Claimant will require to furnish full particulars, at the time of registry, with respect to the locality in which the discovery was made, and the measured distance of the spot (if practicable) from some known point; also the conditions under which the Gold was found (whether alluvial or otherwise) ; the quantity obtained, and the amount of labour and time expended in the search. o. The Claimant will bo required to lodge a sample of the Gold obtained, not exceeding au ounce, at the Colonial Secretary's Office, at the time of registry. G. The Claim for the Reward shall continue in force for a period of two years, after which the individual right ceases ; but it shall be competent for the Governor in Council to renew such Claim, if additional discoveries arc made, so as to give a full period of two years from the date of such additional discovery. 7. No Claim to exceed an area of eight thousand acres, or a radius of two miles. 8. In the case of several parties prospecting within the area prescribed for a Gold-field, and making distinct and separate discoveries therein, the Governor in Council shall have power to define the boundaries within which their several claims extend, according to the extent of their operations, and the physical and geological features of the country. 9. If any dispute arise as to who is or are the discoverer or discoverers of any Gold-field, or as to the manner in which the said Reward shall be distributed in case there are more discoveries than one, then, and in every such case, the Governor in Council shall appoint three persons to hear and determine such disputes ; and the decisions of such persons shall be final and conclusive. 10. The following shall be the scale of the Rewards under the Act to be paid for the discovery of a profitable Gold-field in Tasmania, which fulfils the conditions prescribed in theso Regulations ; viz. — £1000 for a Gold-field yielding lOOozs. weekly. 2000 ditto 150 ditto. 3000 ditto 200 ditto. 4000 ditto 300 ditto. 5000 ditto 400 ditto.

For Double Cylinder Portable Steam Engine, the ifirst Prize of £25. For Horizontal Cylinder Fixed Engine, the First Prize of £20. For Double Blast Finishing Thrashing Machine, the Prize of £15. Also, The Society Silver Medal for Adjusting Blocks for Machines. The duty performed by all C. S. & Co.'s Engines on this occasion, considerably exceeded that of any others. C.
