London, July 1. The stock markets on Monday, July 1, opened very dull, through sales chiefly of a speculative character, and railways suffered in some measure from reports that one company had been unable to pay some of its bonds due in the past week. Before the close of the day the funds improved, but but railways continued heavy with a partial pressure of Btock. Consols left off, for monoy and the account of July 10, at 944 to J, being exactly tho same as on June 1, though a month's dividend lias accrued. The March Exchequer Bills were dealt in at 27s prem., and Jun« at 25s prem. Bank Stock, 253 to 255. New Zealand Securities were quoted, the 6 per cents., at 103 to 105 ; 5 per cents., 92 to 94; 6 per cents, of 1891 (March), 105 to 107; ditto (June), 104 i to 105£; ditto (January), 100. New Zealan Loan and Mercantile Agency, with L 2 10s paid, wore done at 2s ; and the shares of the Trust and Loan Company at f to f prem. Panama, Now Zealand, and Australian Royal Mail, 6£. Tho demand for money was good (July 1), though arrangements for the settlement of balances at the close of tho half-year were completed June 29, but the supplies were larger. Prime bills were done ut 2f per cent., being | below the Bank minimum. A confident expectation is entertained of a Bpeedy reduction to 2 per cent.

A further amount of L 65.000 in bar gold was sent into tho Bank on July 1. Before the departure of the next mail for New Zealand Ike stock held by the Bank will probably exceed L 23,000,000. Additional large shipments ore reported by cable from New York. The railway and general calls due in tho Wmtb. af Jaty amount to L84Q.268,
