K Force Troops Welcomed On Manila Visit

: MANILA, Dec. 25.—About 1100 New • Zealand troops arrived here today on | board the liner Ormonde. No shore leave was allowed this afternoon, but the British and Australian communi ties are preparing varied entertainment for officers and other ranks ’n their homes and clubs tomorrow. Some officers who went ashore on official business said they were much impressed by the number of wrecked Japanese ships in Manila Bay. One Filipino journalist who saw a New Zealander for the first time in his life expressed amazement that “they are not black.’’ Officers of K-Force told a Reuter correspondent that the New Zealanders celebrated Christmas, aboard the Ormonde on Saturday. Christmas dinner comprised 50 turkeys, half a ton of potatoes, 6cwt of beans, 601bs of Christmas mince, 1601bs of Christmas pudding, and 80 dozen quart bottles of beer. Lieutenant Berry, of Wellington, said: “Following the army custom, officers, warrant officers and sergeants waited on the men at dinner.’’
