Sydney Had Beer Famine During The Christmas Period
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA)— Accounts of the beer shortage in Australia during the Christmas season were brought by passengers arriving today in the Monowai from Sydney. Bottled beer was in strictly limited supply, and even draught beer over the bars was available ior only short periods during the day they said. “It was impossible for any but regular customers to get bottles of beer from the hotels, and even they got very little," said Mr H. Nelson, senior vice-president of tre Rockdale-Kia Ora Social Club (Sydney), which has sent a party of 32 for friendly cricket matches in the North Island.
