GOODS TRAIN COLUDES WITH EXPRESS; NOBODY HURT; SLIGHT DAMAGE
CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night <PA). —A carriage and six wagons were derailed when a goods train travelling from Arthur’s Pass to Springfield collided with an express train taking passengers from Christchurcn to Gre vnv'Uth at the Craigieburn station, about one o’clock on Saturday afternoon. None of the passengers or crew was injured. The goods train was to have pulled into a siding to allow the express to pass at Craigieburn, but it failed to stop before the points were reached, and, carrying on slowly with the brakes applied, it struck the other train at a soeed about four miles an hour. The express was actually moving backwards at the time of the impact after taking water, so the force of the collision was not. great. The buffers and cow-catchers of both engines were damaged, as were the buffers of two of the wagons. The carriage derailed on the express train was only slightly damaged.
