Cails To Fires. Two calls to fires wert responded to by the Wanganui Fire Brigade yesterday. The first at 11.45 a.m. was to | the Llamba Mills, where same coal had caught alight, and the second was to the radio beacon at Kaitoke, where some damage was done to a building. Commerce Exams. The following are additional results of the recent Wanganui Chamber of Commerce examinations: Junior typewriting (pass); S. M. Bell, E. Carrell, Raewyn Blue. Bookkeeping (pass): R. L. Lewes, P. Lyons, Shirley Mancer. Typewriting senior (pass): Pamela Kempton.
Tennis Flayers Arrive. Despite enforced last-minute alterations in their" travelling arrangements few contestants in the New Zealand Catholic Lawn Tennis Association’s Carnival had failed to reach Wanganui last night. Among the last to arrive were the Aucklanders, who came by bus. If the weather is favourable the carnival will begin this morning with Watson Shield matches on the St. Mary’s courts and pre-championship rounds at Gonville.
Two Trucks Burnt. Two small motor trucks were severely damaged by fire when one of the vehicles travelling towards Dublin Street Bridge on Somme Parade collided with a stationary truck, which was parked near Guyton Street corner. The impact forced the stationary truck acros sthe roadway, where it burst into flames. The other truck involved In the collision also caught fire, the occupants escaping. The stationary truck was the property of Mr. David McMurray, Wanganui, and the other vehicle was owned by Mr A. J. Humphries, of Dublin Street.
