High Church Award For N.Z. Priest
CHRISTCHURCH. Last Night (PA) —The Apostalic Delegate for Australia and New Zealand. Archbishop Marella, has informed His Lordship, Bishop Joyce, that the Holy Father, Pope Pius XII., has conferred upon the Rt. Rev. Monsignor James Kennedy, D.D.. parish priest of St. Peter's Church. Beckenham, the title of Prothonotary Apostolic. Monsignor Kennedy, who was bor'n in Greymouth. studied at St. Patrick’s College, Manly, whence he went to Rome, where he read a brilliant theological course and was awarded a Doctorate of Divinity.
Monsignor Kennedy is one of the best known a'nd most popular priests in the diocese of Christchurch and has many friends in all sections of the community The title of Prothonotary Apostolic is held by onlv five other Monsignori in Australia and New Zealand and Monsignor -T. Cahill. Auckland. is the only other Now Zeatland priest to have been accorded this hon-
