SEVEN HORSES FALL IN PRINCIPAL EVENT AT SOUTH CANTERBURY
TIMARU, Last Night (PA).—The South Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting was held on Saturday in slight rain. The track was slippery but improved latei. ...e attendance was fair and the totaiisator handled £30,684 10s, including £2586 10s on the double. There is no similar meeting for comparison. The double dividend for Dunkirk and White Robe was £53 8s for £l. Following an accident in the South Canterbury Centennial Cup, four jockeys were admitted to hospital. J. A. Bremner (rider of Broie) received a hip injury, J. D. Pankhurst (rider of Kosher) ankle and thumb injuries, M. R. Jones (rider of Goldstrike) injuries to his nose and a shoulder, and W. D. Skelton (rider of Flying Sovereign) received mild concussion. Skelton was not admitted to hospital.
