Knee Injury Keeps Compton Out Of The Test

’ MELBOURNE, Dec. 22 (Recd. 7 • p.m.).—Denis Compton, England’s i vice-captain, has suffered a recurrence of his knee injury and cannot play in the second test. His omission is considered necessary as a recuperative measure after the Australian eleven match in Sydney where almost the entire responsibility of saving England from defeat was thrown on his shoulders. Compton seemed tired and listless in that game, which he finished with a limp. He received short-wave treatment immediately on arrival in Melbourne, i and the doctor has been satisfied with the progress. An X-ray of his I knee has shown a complete absence lof bone flaking. He should be fit for I future games.
