WOMEN’S INSTITUTES WAVERLEY

In the absence ot the president, Mrs. G. Milne (vice president) was in the chair for the December meeting of the Waverley Institute. Apologies were received from the number of members. Mrs Lupton gave the motto and Mrs. R. Barron read the president’s letter from “Home and Country,” Mrs. Hillmer Snr. again entertained members with two instructive demonstrations. The first was the making of a floral bonbon, in a much simpler way, and secondly, the making of hats from cellophane paper. Mrs. Hillmer was thanked by Mrs. Milne and presented with a shoulder spray. The competitions for the afternoon were judged by Mrs Woodill, and Mrs. P. Cunningham and were as follows: Three carnations, Mrs. Edwards 1, Mrs. E. Morgan 2, Miss D. Clover 3. Hospital box of flowers, Mrs. Lupton 1, Miss D. Clover 2, Mrs J. Graham 3. One lb. pot gooseberry jam. Mrs G. Milne 1, Miss A. Davis 2, Mrs. Carroll 3. Best article out of flour bags, Mrs. Williams 1, Miss D. Clover 2, Mrs G. Milne 3. Members having birthdays during December and January received birthday gifts and honours.
