Last-Minute Talk To Stop Hospital Fitters From Leaving Jobs
WELLINGTON, Yesterday (PA).— Last-minute talks between the Wellington Hospital Board and the fitters employed by the board were held this afternoon in an effort to settle the fitters’ wage dispute and obviate their threatened action in walking off the job tomorrow.
A representative of the fitters said today that the men were still firm in their resolve, but would prefer to see the dispute settled without the necessity for a walk-out. The chairman of the board, Mr. M. A. Castle, has given an assurance that if the fitters walk off the job tomorrow essential services will be maintained and the comfort and safety Qf the patients will not be permitted to suffer.
